Overview
Gestione Palio is a point-of-sale and inventory management system I built for a summer camp. It handles the full lifecycle of a camp shop: card top-ups, sales, stock management, and daily financial reports.
The system was used during the “Palio” summer camp and ran without issues for the entire duration of the event.
Features
- Prepaid card payments: participants pay with personal cards instead of cash.
- Card management: issue new cards, top up credit, suspend lost/stolen cards with automatic credit transfer.
- Inventory tracking: real-time stock updates with low-stock alerts.
- Sales dashboard: live view of the day’s transactions, revenue, and most popular items.
- Daily reports: end-of-day summary exported as PDF for the camp treasurer.
Architecture
The backend runs on a Raspberry Pi with Python and SQLite. A secondary device (tablet) served as the cashier interface, connected over the local Wi-Fi network. All data stayed local — no internet connection required.
Results
- Zero cash handled during the camp’s operating hours.
- Theft incidents: none.
- Average transaction time reduced by ~60% compared to cash.
- Full financial audit trail available at end of camp.
